The University Museum of Natural History is
home to the best-preserved remains of the long-extinct dodo. The
museum, which houses the University’s zoological, entomological
and geological collections is itself a Grade 1 listed building
boasting amazing neo-Gothic architecture. As well as the dodo,
its historical specimens include the Oxfordshire dinosaurs. Bird-watchers
can also delight, during the summer months, in the live webcam
watching the activities of the swifts in the museum’s tower.

The Pitt Rivers Museum is home of the University’s
anthropology and world archaeology collections. As well as being
famous for the totem pole and witch in a bottle, it is thought
to have provided the inspiration for ‘Diagon Alley’
in the Harry Potter stories and films.
"…they
do say there be a witch in it, and if you let un out there'll
be a peck o'trouble."
